Web Application Developer

The Web Application Developer will be responsible for developing and maintaining new web applications from specific requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret written business requirements and technical specification documents.
  • Perform coding to written technical specifications.
  • Investigate, analyse and document reported defects.
  • Perform maintenance programming and correction of identified defects.
  • Train and mentor junior staff on existing systems, or new technologies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Produce weekly timesheets.

Skills / Attributes Required:

  • Demonstrable Web Application Development experience.
  • A 2:1 or above in an IT related discipline.
  • At least 2 years commercial Java development experience.
  • At least 2 years commercial HTML, JavaScript and CSS experience.
  • Experience of the Eclipse development environment.
  • Debugging experience.
  • Experience in Subversion or other versioning control system.
  • Ability to interpret written requirements and technical specification documents.
  • Ability to code software according to published standards and design guidelines.
  • Flexible attitude, ability to perform under pressure.
  • A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to the work.
  • Ability to work well within a team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in Wicket and Brix.
  • Working knowledge of related Web Development technologies, such as AJAX, JSON, JQuery, or other third party JavaScript libraries.
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat, Jackrabbit, Ant, and deployment processes.
  • Experience in Junit or other unit-testing frameworks.
  • Experience in Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience in web design and related software, such as Photoshop or GIMP.
  • Knowledge of XML based web-services.
  • Working knowledge of unrelated Web Development technologies, such as ASP,  PHP, or PHP content management systems such as Joomla.

Application Developer

The Application Developer will be responsible for writing and coding individual programmes from specific requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret written business requirements and technical specification documents.
  • Perform coding to written technical specifications.
  • Investigate, analyse and document reported defects.
  • Perform maintenance programming and correction of identified defects.
  • Create, document, and implement unit test plans, scripts, and test harnesses.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation using defined technical documentation templates.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Produce weekly timesheets.

Skills / Attributes Required:

  • Demonstrable Software Development experience.
  • A 2:1 or above in an IT related discipline.
  • J2EE / Enterprise Java: Spring, application servers, deployment architectures.
  • Knowledge of XML based web-services.
  • Java.
  • Hibernate and Perl useful but not required.
  • Debugging.
  • Experience of the Eclipse development environment.
  • Subversion or other revision control.
  • Knowledge of database architecture and design.
  • Ability to interpret written requirements and technical specification documents.
  • Ability to code software according to published standards and design guidelines.
  • Flexible attitude, ability to perform under pressure.
  • A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to the work.
  • Ability to work well within a team.

Web Service Developer

The Web-Service Developer will be responsible for writing and coding individual programmes from specific requirements.

Software Support Coordinator, 1st Line

The Software Support Co-ordinator must provide first line technical support to End-Users for the products and services Multicom delivers to the UK Travel industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communication with customers via e-mails, phone calls and the online support system.
  • Assist customers in integrating Multicom XML API.
  • Diagnose issues in Multicom software and services.
  • Delegating responsibility for fixes to the software developers.
  • Keeping customers informed of progress.
  • To keep Multicom customers up to date with the status and progress of their support issues.
  • To identify and delegate service/software issues to relevant departments.
  • Produce weekly timesheets.

Skills / Attributes Required:

  • 2:1 or above in IT related discipline.
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows operating systems (Windows 2000, 2003XP, Vista) and Linux O/S, XML, Java, SQL.
  • ITIL certification is desirable.
  • Demonstrable evidence of influencing positive change within a support environment.
  • Ability to lead teams effectively both through structured coaching and delivering by example.
  • Thorough knowledge of support operations to include a good knowledge of IT best practices, industry trends and customer service.
  • Flexible attitude and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
